Our work includes

main roles

MC Drivers

Southern Haulage operates primarily Monday to Friday and undertakes a wide variety of work. This allows the company to offer positions that suit different levels of experience, preferred working hours and lifestyle needs. With depots in both Mt Barker and Albany, equipment is generally based out of the depot closest to where operators live.

Bulk Haulage Operators

Thanks to the broad scope of work, Southern Haulage can offer roles suited to different levels of experience and work–life balance preferences. Whether you prefer consistent routines and being home each night, or enjoy being out on the road performing a range of different tasks, there are opportunities to suit most operators. Each operator is assigned their own equipment, and roles can be based out of either the Mt Barker or Albany depots.

Mt Barker Chicken Poultry Haulage

This is one of the most routine-based and low-stress driving roles available. All work involves short leads on mostly quiet roads, with an average shift from 3:00am to 2:00pm. Unlike bulk haulage, workloads remain consistent throughout the year with no seasonal fluctuations. The role operates Monday to Friday, every week of the year except public holidays. Due to the early start times, this position is ideally suited to drivers based near the Mt Barker depot.

Future MC Operators

Interested in becoming an MC operator but don’t yet hold your licence? Southern Haulage would still love to hear from you.

Key benefits

Machine Operators

Southern Haulage performs off-road civil roadworks within plantations and on farms for local clients. The machinery used includes graders, rollers, loaders, side tippers and excavators.

Many of these roles are offered on a part-time basis, providing an excellent opportunity for those seeking greater work–life balance.

In addition to civil works, Southern Haulage also operates a forestry services division, including woodchip chipping operations and haulage from plantations to WAPRES in Albany.

Mechanical Trades Assistants (MTA)

Mechanical Trades Assistant roles are a great entry-level opportunity for someone interested in the transport industry who is looking to gain practical experience.

Based in the trailer workshop, MTAs develop a wide range of hands-on skills while assisting with trailer maintenance. This includes general welding, auto electrical work, tyre changes, bearing replacements and safety inspections.

The role also provides exposure to operating prime movers, including coupling and uncoupling trailers and reversing combinations — creating an ideal pathway for those looking to gain experience working toward becoming an MC driver.
